Blog Tour, Review and Giveaway: Insidious by Aleatha Romig

When a powerful man is willing to risk everything for his own satisfaction, only one woman can beat him at his own game: his wife. Or so she thinks…

“Let’s start with you calling me Stewart. Formalities seem unnecessary.”

Stewart Harrington is rich, gorgeous, and one of the most powerful men in Miami. He always gets what he wants. Anything is available to him for the right price.

Even me.

Being the wife of a mogul comes with all the perks, but being Mrs. Stewart Harrington comes with a few special requirements. I’ve learned to keep a part of myself locked away as my husband watches me submit to his needs. But the more he demands of me, the more beguiled he becomes and that’s to my advantage. So I keep fulfilling his fantasies and following his rules because he doesn’t know that what he’s playing is really my game. And winning is everything, right?

Insidious

adjective

Intended to entrap or beguile
Stealthy treacherous or deceitful
Operating or proceeding in an inconspicuous or seemly harmless way but actually with grave effect.

Yes, I need to quote Dictonary.com for this novel as hot damn… That is the perfect title for this novel!  But the who receiving the deceit is where I am left with my head still spinning! Where to start with this review… sigh…  Always when I read a book that blows me away I get my own sense of writers block on writing the reviews.  Insidious by Aleatha Romig is a book that just BLEW ME AWAY!!!  I know my review will not come to close to giving it justice but I hope that if you buy one book this month, you will GET THIS BOOK!  Ms. Romig is just a genius… no wait… an evil genius!!!!!!!!!!   She has the magic touch of creating these dark and twisted and out of the norm stories and makes you fall in love with it! She did it to me in the Consequences Series and now again in Insidious!  She makes these characters that are flawed and damaged and makes us fall in love with them inspite of the dark demons they may have.  That takes true talent!  This book will definitely be in my top 10 books of this year! Absolutely loved it! This is a complete story with no cliffhanger.

Turning 18 and just about to graduate high school Victoria has her whole life ahead of her.  Excited to be starting the University of Miami in the fall, she feels like she is about ready to start.  Little does she know it’s about to end.  Her parents have contracted her to marry a wealthy businessman to satisfy debts her stepfather has.  She has no choice in the matter, if she refuses, her entire families lives are in jeopardy. She has a younger sister and that would be affected and she feels like she must do this for them.  Victoria’s to be husband, Stewart Harrington, is one of the richest men in the world, anything she ever dreamed of would be handed to her at her feet.  What she didn’t expect is the sick and twisted sexual appetite he has.  Victoria over times learns to block it all out. She has been trained to act a certain way, to be a certain way.

“As long as I played Stewart’s game, I could support my sister and anything else my heart’s desire.”

“Over the past nine years I’d learned to do more than fake an organism.  I’d learned to be Stewart’s obedient whore.”

Nine years into their marriage and Stewart gets a rare type of cancer and his health starts to fail and Victoria knows it will be just a matter of time before he is dead and she will be free of his contract.  She can feel that freedom is in her reach.  But with death knocking at the door, Victoria’s close friend at Stewart’s lawyers office alerts Victoria that he made recent changes to his will and his contract will continue to someone else even after his passing.  Victoria is infuriated as she thought she would be done.  She never thought her hell would continue after his death.  More shocking revelations are unturned and I was literally gasping, cursing a string of oh my goshes, and shaking my head as each little secret is exposed! Victoria has brass balls is all I can say and the death bed confession left me in total shock!

The lies and secrets keep piling on and when I thought I knew the whole story… BAM…. the story takes a turn and what Victoria thought her life to be may not be real at all. With Stewart’s passing, all the money in the world cannot cover up the years of lies and hiding that Victoria’s family tried to keep her safe from.

“The implications meant that everything I’d always known about myself was a lie.”

When everything is said and done and I thought Victoria would get her life on track we then get hit with another twist that I was blindsided by it!  It hit me like a mac truck and I had to read the last passage about five times to let it sink in! It’s so bloody brilliant that I wish I had time to reread this story another time.   How everything unfolds is just shocking and there are so many moving parts I never expected the story to end how it did!  The pure mastery in Ms. Romig’s words is the ending has so many interpretations that I literally was left with my head spinning!  Is pure genius!!  After we read a book it should leave us thinking about it for days, weeks, months!  Insidious does just that!  It’s a true masterpiece and I would highly recommend it.  I would give it 10 stars of I could!  Bravo Aleatha Romig for another outstanding novel!
