Blog Tour/Review: First Debt by Pepper Winters

“You say I’ll never own you. If I win—you willingly give me that right. You sign not only the debt agreement, but another—one that makes me your master until your last breath is taken. You do that, and I’ll give you this.”
Nila Weaver’s family is indebted. Stolen, taken, and bound not by monsters but by an agreement written over six hundred years ago, she has no way out.
She belongs to Jethro as much as she denies it.
Jethro Hawk’s patience is running out. His inheritance gift tests, challenges, and surprises him—and not in good ways. He hasn’t leashed her but he thinks he might’ve found a way to bind her forever.
Debts are mounting. Payment waiting.

A small gasp fell from my lips as his fingers kissed the paper-thin skin. His eyes held me hostage. The golden brown was now a swirling bronze, raging with the same demanding hunger I knew reflected in mine.
“This sort of reminds me of the forest,” I whispered. “The trees around us—no one else.” My words fell like petals, waiting for Jethro to crush them beneath his glossy shoe.
But…he didn’t.
Tracing one hand from my wrist, along the inside of my arm, and right to my throat, he fisted my ponytail. With intensity that stripped my soul to the very essence of who I was, he pulled my head back slowly, sensually, full of sexual power.
His eyes dropped to my mouth. “I’ll let you in on a little secret, Ms. Weaver.”
I panted, my neck straining against his hold, but I made no move to break the poignant awareness.
“You won that night, but I lied when I said it pissed me off.” His mouth dropped, his tongue licked my bottom lip with the barest of grazes.

It is intoxicating, beguiling and incredibly ANGSTY! I am always up for whatever Pepper has up her sleeve. She is known for pushing the envelope with dark topics. She usually satisfies beyond comprehension and delivers big. She is genius!

Pepper is simply a profound writer. She writes eloquently and with precision. Her stories have so much intensity that I am often left feeling heady.  She writes to mystify and encourage the reader to decode the imbedded symbolism and careful thoughts that she incorporates into her rich characters and thick plots. They can be complicated, messy, passionate, sinister and all consuming! She is a provoker – an astounder and most certainly a dreamer!  It’s obvious, look at her body of work, Monsters in the Dark series, Destroyed and the latest Debt Inheritance series.  They are all Unforgettable, Tragic, Deep and BEAUTIFUL……
Nila is a possession. She is fighting for her freedom with minimal reserves and resources. Can she outwit the Hawks? It is highly unlikely. But seeing the fallout as she is trapped in their clutches and pushed to endure and obey a debt is surreal. Watching her fierceness bloom is inspiring. Feeling the tension between Jethro and Nila is intoxicating and a big turn-on. I love ANGST and Pepper knows how to do the push and pull thing til the hero, heroine and reader are so invested that we are all hot and bothered and ready to explode……… and have us begging for MORE.
“Jethro wore command like one wore cologne. His strong Jaw, pursed lips, and sculpted brow shouted power – true  power. And there was nothing anyone could do about it.” -Nila
“I see you, Jethro Hawk. I see what you’re trying to hide.” _Nila
Jethro is a bundle of contradiction and he wears it well. He is cool, refined, intimidating. He’s the tragic hero that may need saving himself and a bit of redeeming.
“My kindness came with too many conditions and more pain than if I remained cruel.” –Jethro
“I wanted to nuzzle her tears and whisper the truth of who I was.” Jehro
This is a hero that has made his mark. He is undeniably sophisticated, cocky and powerful. I have fallen for him and his screwed up world. I know deep down there is something beyond his granite exterior and icy heart.
The Saga continues in book 2….. The Debt must be paid. It’s as simple as that or is it?  Words can’t express the anticipation and page by page excitement I felt while devouring First Debt. No one has ever taken me on such an impassioned journey. The Hawk-Weaver history was fascinating and shed some light on the cruelty and reasoning behind all of the madness.
We got a more vivid glimpse of Kestrel. He seems like such a cool guy. I especially liked the rivalry brewing between jet and Kes. Her words lead you to want more info on the family dynamics and their past which is sure to come in the next installments…… It seems to be something big.
I can’t wait for more. More Debt-More Payments…. I need it! I crave it! My emotions were all over with this tragic love story….  Go ahead experience the darkness, unbridled passion, cruelty and excitement with First Debt. It is pleasurable beyond belief!
5 MYSTYFYING STARS!!!!! And Beyond

Pepper Winters just continues to blow me away!  Every book she writes she just pushes my boundaries and comfort zone and do I love it! In Debt Inheritance we had to shock and awe of meeting the Hawk clan.  It really showed how the debt was something they took serious and they were very set in the rituals. The Weavers had a debt to pay to the Hawks and there were rules to be followed.  It was not easy to stomach and at times I questioned my sanity for reading but in the end, I was fascinated.  First Debt picks up right where Debt Inheritance ends and I just fell in love with this story.   First Debt we really get to know Jethro and Nila and just how complex their relationship is.

Nila pushes Jethro like no one ever has.  She is defiant at every turn but there is something about Jethro that pulls at her inner core and the desire that builds just from hearing his voice is mind boggling to her.  She hates him, but desires him.  She knows her only chance at freedom is to use him. She knows they both feel the intensity between them and for her to save her life, she must take his.

“I will make him care.  My stomach churned with the promise.  I will make him love me.  My conviction wasn’t flimsy or half-hearted.  And then I’ll destroy him.”- Nila

Jethro knows his resolve is slipping when it comes to Nila.  He must follow the rules and administer the debts for Nila to pay but something but something changed along the way.  His inner battle to keep an icing exterior starts to waver and this in the Hawk clan is unacceptable.   He knew what was at stake if he didn’t follow the plan.

“If I failed… who knew it my father would let me live.  A firstborn son didn’t necessarily inherit everything- not if death sold him too soon.” – Jethro

When Jethro leaves for two weeks, Nila finds comfort in Kes, Jethro’s brother.  She has long suspected Kes as being her sexting partner, Kite.  A wrong number text that has led to a relationship built with each other exploring their deepest darkest secrets.  Nila wants to confront Kes about it, but never does. The finds comfort in the anonymity of the relationship and the small seed of doubt in the mind, keeps her from confronting him. Jethro and Kes are so different. Where Jethro is demanding and dominating, Kes is kind and almost loving towards her

I couldn’t deny I was drawn to Kes- partly because I thought he was Kite and partly because he has an ease about him, an generosity that made me want to know more-but it was nothing, nothing, coming to the fierce hunger I felt when Jethro touched me.”- Nila

When Jethro returns, the sparks fly. Jealously of seeing his brother with Nila was something he ever expected. When Jethro goes all caveman, it’s hot as hell!  Wow oh wow!!!  My kindle was sizzling at the raw passion that transpires between Jethro and Nila.  It makes you want to root for them that beyond the craziness of the Debt Inheritance that they can escape.  What I so didn’t expect is the bomb that is dropped at the end… being a series I know was a middle story and holy bajesus, I was blindsided!  The secrets exposed are jaw dropping and have me bowing down the Ms Winters, yet again!  I never saw this coming and I am now dying waiting for the next installment in the series! It’s pure genius!  If you are looking for a twisted, smoking hot, and needing something a little different than this series is for you.  5 huge stars for me!
